LEXINGTON HORSEMEN PREPARE FOR UNITED BOWL III

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – For the third time in the last four years, the Lexington Horsemen square off with Sioux Falls to decide the national championship. Kick-off between the Horsemen and Storm in United Indoor Football’s United Bowl III is slated for 8:05 p.m. EDT in Rupp Arena and the game will be carried live on 101.5 FM The Planet and WVLK 590 AM with Gary Ball and Randy Wilson.

Third-seeded Lexington (10-7), which will square off with undefeated Sioux Falls (17-0), upset second-seeded River City in the playoff’s first round before knocking off Bloomington, 67-49, in Rupp Arena last Saturday to claim the Eastern Conference Championship.

Sioux Falls defeated Billings 45-23 last Sunday to capture the Western Conference Championship. The Storm have now won 37 consecutive games spanning three seasons and have claimed the national championship each season since the UIF was formed prior to the 2005 campaign.

This marks the second consecutive season that the Horsemen will face the Storm in the national title contest and the fourth year in a row that Lexington has ended its season by facing Sioux Falls. The Horsemen defeated the Storm 59-38 in 2004 to claim the NIFL national title. Last season, Sioux Falls outlasted Lexington 72-64 in Sioux Falls, S.D., to claim United Bowl II.

Sioux Falls leads the all-time series between the two squads 4-2. Earlier this season, the Storm beat the Horsemen 76-45 to mark the largest margin of victory by either team in series history.
